HellllllllOOOoooo Ham Radio Fans!!
This COVID-19 ordeal has caused mass hysteria similar to zombie apocalypse... and has caused folks world-wide to go into 'social distancing' mode!
Well, no better way to do that than getting on the air...
I operated the Stew Perry Distance Challenge last night for about 5 hours and had a blast.
Running 100 watts and only CQing (no search and pouncing for the most part), I had hams from as far away as Russia and Japan answering my CQ! WOW! Just awesome! I only have 2 beverages up currently, but they worked well!
Station update
I almost have all antennas populated to tower 1. This is a 125 feet of Rohn 55G guyed every 30 feet. Wind at this QTH is relentless! No rotors connected yet, have the cable bunch made up for all 5 rotors and just need a good day of weather to pull it up! They all have quick disconnects on them so ….won't be long.
All the Stack match switches are connectorized as well! So they are ready too... COME ON SPRING!!!
This tower has morphed over the course of its construction...but here is the final lay out for THIS TOWER:
2L40 Moxon on 28 foot boom (MONSTER) at 138 feet.
9L6 on 49 foot boom at 128 feet
Stacked 5L20s on 48 foot booms at 121 and 61 feet
Stacked 5L15s on 36 foot booms at 91 and 48 feet
3 High stack of 6L10s on 36 foot booms at 101, 71, and 38 feet
There is about 1 full day of work on this tower to be 100% but I AM HERE TO TELL YOU....
This 2L40M moxon on 28 foot boom is a BEAST!! It is positioned North right now and is CRAZY strong into Asia... Best 40 meter antenna I have had and I have had a bunch of them. If you are interested in building it, drop me a line and I'll share the plans with you.... You can see it and the whole tower (partially populated) on QRZ.com.
Plan is to start tower 3 this summer. That will be another adventure... Just VERY Slow when you do most of the work yourself!!!
Until next time!!
God bless... and …..
